When we last checked in, times were sweeter.  We were young and we sat on the beach, taking in the sweet and sensuous scent of hibiscus that languidly lilted along the summer breeze.  We drank our caipirinhas while an emaciated, swarthy gentleman plucked soft, sweet shanties on a zither.

We weren’t troubled by new, horrible words like, “sweatpods”.  We didn’t have to provide a last minute intervention for meth addiction.  Those were the days.

We are sorry to say this folks, but the endless summer that was episode 22 is no more, and we are in the nuclear winter of earth 603. This episode is not for the faint of heart.

Why is it so dark?  1 word:   Snow.

Why snow?

Here’s why:

You can’t say we didn’t warn you.  Here it is: Earth 603 episode 23

Quantum Reviews: Thor: God of Thunder #2

Verily, this connecting splash of Thor #1 & #2 is majestic. Thee. Forsooth.

Verily, this connecting splash of Thor #1 & #2 is majestic. Thee. Forsooth.

Ladies & Gentlemen, one of Earth 603’s favorite writers, Jason Aaron (Scalped, Wolverine & The X-Men, Ghost Riderrecently took over the writing duties on the Marvel Now! relaunched – and slightly renamed – Thor: God of Thunder.  Stu & Zach were both big fans of issue #1 and eagerly awaited the second part of the God Killer storyline.  Aaron and Esad Ribic (Loki) are crafting a new direction on Thor that includes not one, not two, but THREE Thunder Gods.  A young Thor, from before he harnessed the power of Mjolnir, the current Thor from the ongoing Marvel Universe and a future Thor, looking as aged and battle-scarred as Odin.  Somehow, Aaron makes the concurrent stories work.

So when faced with the assignment of summing up his thoughts on Aaron & Ribic’s work on issue #2 of Thor:  God of Thunder, Stu had this to say:

“Like a Dio song but more rock ‘n’ roll and less elves.”

The End.

Welcome back to PART TWO of Episode #22!

Harvey Dent must love this episode.  [I say that b/c Harvey Dent loves the duality of the universe.  Also?  He friggin’ loves the number two.]

Apologies, but it looks like you need to prep for this half of the freshly baked loaf of podcast with some more homework.  But if you do all of your homework, we’ll give you a sweet syndication deal and send you into Outer Space.  Ahem.  OUTER SPAAAAAAAAAAACE!

Homework:

Characters

  • Josie McCoy – The red-haired guitarist and leader of the band. Josie shares an attraction with Alan, the road manager.
  • Valerie Brown – An African American girl who plays the tambourines. The voice of reason in the group, Valerie is highly intelligent and a mechanical wizard.
  • Melody Valentine – The band’s drummer. Blonde and slightly airheaded, what Melody lacks in intellect she makes up for in heart; to wit, her perpetual sweetness and optimism.
  • Alan M. Mayberry – The group’s muscular roadie and Josie’s love interest.
  • Alexandra Cabot – The ongoing antagonist of the series, identified by her long black pony-tailed hair with a white streak through the center of it, suggesting a pole-cat, or skunk. Selfish and bullying, Alexandra bills herself as “the real star of the band”, though she does little more than stand around scowling with her arms folded, always jealous of the attention the others get, especially Josie. Her sole “talent” is her constant plotting to steal the spotlight and Alan’s affections from Josie, only to have every scheme fail in humiliating fashion.
  • Alexander Cabot III – Alexandra’s brother and the group’s manager, highly identifiable by his colorful, wacky wardrobe including his green rimmed sunglasses, orange shirt collar, violet-red ascot, green shirt, purple pinstriped pants, yellow shoes, and green socks. Alexander is an admitted coward but, in sharp contrast to Alexandra, is good-hearted. Alexander and Valerie have a slight attraction to one another at times.
  • Sebastian – Alexandra’s pet cat, whose black and white fur resembles Alexandra’s hair. He enjoys being mean and sometimes appears to go to the enemy’s side. Alexandra sometimes asks Sebastian to do things to Josie, but her tricks usually backfire.
  • Bleep – Melody’s fluffy pet alien with pink extremities. He makes a “bleep” sound (thus his name) which only Melody can understand. (appears only in Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space)

Hi all,

We’re sorry (so, so, so very sorry) for the delay in getting the mellifluous Episode #22 to your hobbity ears until now.  It’s a crazy long episode with an even crazier special guest star.  So we split it into 2 parts – just like we were forced to do with that rapscallion Manager Supreme Rich!

Here’s a list of things Stu & Zach have been doing that have stopped them from publishing the newest episode:

– Stu was in the bayou trying to save the world from The Rot.

– Zach was trying to market, “Mother Russia’s Metal Skin Hair Tonic”.

– Stu was on the road with Dazzler on their, “Radioactive Bubble Review” Tour.

– Zach was trying to convince Cynthia to write a book about, “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic”.

– Stu was trying to make the perfect plate of ribs before inevitably getting them knocked on the floor.  So is the circle of life.

New Hampshire's Serengeti

New Hampshire’s Serengeti

– Zach was walking his cats.  Seriously.  He can’t help it.  As soon as the sun comes up, it’s, “Let’s walk the cats!”, “Let’s train for a Cat 5k!”, “Let’s dress up like cats and streak glitter paint on our clothes and prance around the neighborhood!”, “Let’s burn down the abandoned rollerskating rink while we drink the blood of our enemies and sneak up on the mailman and whisper meows into his vacant eye sockets!”  Cliche.  We know.

– Stu was using comic books to try to warn local teenagers about the dangerous side effects of pure love.

Clown Love = Not Groovy

So there you have it.  All valid reasons for our delay.  So drink in Part #1 – Part #2 is right around the corner.  (If, you know, the corner is between 8-20 hours long.)

Drink it up:  Earth 603 episode 22 part 1

Quantum Reviews: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1

Toughwomen and Gentlemen, we have quite the treat for you.  Zach’s wife, who goes by the alias of, “Cynthia” on the Earth 603 Comic Book Podcast, was a ginormous My Little Pony fan as a child.  She loved them and squeezed them and made them carry her Care Bears to and fro.   The other night, she decided to take the plunge and read the first issue of IDW’s, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1.  She spoke about it loudly as she read it.  Zach live-tweeted her reactions.  Please enjoy.  You’ll have no choice.   [Note:  In these tweets, she is referred to by her real first initial, which is, “M”.]

@ZQF8

-My wife is reading, “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1” as homework for the @Earth603Podcast. I’m live tweeting it.  Gloriousness.

-“This doesn’t look like MY ponies. This is that Japanamation, isn’t it?”

-“What are these? Hipster Ponies?!”

-“Well, at least Apple Blossom is here.  She’ll get everyone’s sh*t together.”

-“This pony’s eyes are all googly. Why?!”

@JetpackComics My wife is reading My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #1 for @Earth603Podcast homework. I’m live tweeting it. Not pretty.

-“Pegasuses are not just boys. They can be girls too. THEY CAN BE GIRLS TOO.”

-“There’s a peace symbol on one of the Ponies asses and that’s just not true.”

-“Blues Brothers Ponies? This is ridiculous. That other pony is all jacked up. Why?!”

-“There’s cats all over the place. Stu must hate this comic.”

-“I’m just supposed to read down the page, right? Not across?”

-“Wait. So she just had muffins and now she doesn’t have muffins anymore? And she’s covered in slime? What?!”

-“What do I do when it’s a whole page? I just read everywhere?”

-“Pod Ponies? I don’t like it.”

-“Glad it’s a cohesive story and that we r raising girls 2 think 4 themselves. Oh. Wait. And think about HAIR and FASHION.”

-“I guess her cannon shoots bubble gum? Is that true?”

-“Oh. We’re still looking for the, ‘cutie marks’? Oh, good. B/c I thought we had stopped.”

-“So is this supposed to be for bad ass little girls? Do bad ass little girls read comics?”

-“What’s this?” – M, “It’s a back-up story.” – Z, “Starring an a$$hole pony?” – M

-“I think they made a mistake in the beginning. There was a sign pointing to, ‘Bunnies’ but there was a Bunny in the other direction.”

-“Why does 1 of the guy ponies work @ a Mustache Hut? Selling mustaches 2 the other ponies?”

-“Rainbow is my favorite pony. What about you?” – Z, “None of them. I find them all deplorable.” – M

-“If I was forced into choosing a favorite pony, I guess I’d pick the Library Pony. Although apparently she pees when she gets 2 excited.”

-“I think the ponies just need to get their act together. Stay away from muffins. And if you start to worry, just think about fashion.”

-“Oh. I guess this one is the Dionysus Pony. It’s covered in grapes.”  #MyLittlePony

-“I guess this must be Looky-Loo Pony b/c it’s got binoculars on its ass.”

-“I guess you could say it had a good story. Except it didn’t.” – M’s final thought on My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic #1 #Earth603
