Enrico Fermi (Italian: [enˈri.ko ˈfeɾ.mi]; 29 September 1901 – 28 November 1954) was an Italian theoretical and experimental physicist, best known for his work on the development of Chicago Pile-1, the first nuclear reactor, and for his contributions to the development of quantum theory, nuclear and particle physics, and statistical mechanics. Along with Robert Oppenheimer, he is referred to as “the father of the atomic bomb”.^[1] He held several patents related to the use of nuclear power, and was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity and the discovery of transuranic elements. Throughout his life Fermi was widely regarded as one of the very few physicists who excelled both theoretically and experimentally.

He’s also a dirty space alien.

Just read The Manhattan Projects from Image Comics. Written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Nick Pitarra, it may be the best book on the stands right now. And the latest issue, #12, is already in the running for single issue of the year.

HI.

Stu & Zach didn’t love last week’s Avengers #7. We just thought we should get that out of the way now. But the cover was pretty. Kind of. Well – it wasn’t that great. But it was serviceable. Quite serviceable. But there are some ugly ass comic book covers out there.

Ugly. Ass.

For instance . . .

I hate it when I eat a kiwi and then I get spikes on my tongue.
GAMMA SPIKES!

Ummm. Why is Spidey, “tickling” Electro in his . . . special . . . energy dispenser?

We hate all Broncos at Earth 603. Kryptonian or otherwise. Doggone it!

Look – we can all agree that Remy Lebeau is one sexy gentleman. This? Looks like Remy drank too many mercury milkshakes.

This? Is not a pretty book. Too sharp. As a kid, reading this book made me so angry that I had to sit outside for a while.

So. Yeah. Some books are pretty fugging bugly. You know what’s NOT ugly? Why, writing a delightful note on an index card and scanning it, attaching it and e-mailing it to us! And that’s just what our friend Tupper did! Well done, E.T.!
